Hiking network from Olst/Wijhe to Zwolle
The village of Olst, like the village of Wijhe, lies on the banks of the IJssel (Wijhe will be the starting point if the route Olst-Wijhe is done by public transport because of the mileage/kilometers). From here the tour leads through or along the floodplains of the river IJssel. Sometimes you’ll find yourself at the same level as the river IJssel and the next moment you’ll have wide open views from a dike across the IJssel to the higher edges of the Veluwe or the Hanseatic town of Hattem.
Small roads, meadows and alluvial forests provide beautiful views and a sense of space and freedom on this walk from Olst/Wijhe to the Hanseatic city of Zwolle. Geese, swans, waterfowl, waders and birds of prey such as sparrowhawk, buzzard and kestrel together with the floodplains make up the picture of the day. Perhaps while hiking you will be lucky and meet the bald eagle that hunts here through the IJssel valley. If that doesn’t work out, in the breeding season you can also find the rare black tern just before entering Zwolle.
The medieval city and provincial capital of Overijssel Zwolle is a good place to be. Besides numerous high quality restaurants with menus that span the globe and numerous terraces, a visit to the renowned museum De Fundatie is definitely worth your visit. But just wandering through the beautiful streets, squares and parks of course is also a possibility.
In Zwolle you also have the possibility to book a private city walk with us.
