Hiking network from Hellendoorn to Ommen

Peak to Peak in the Netherlands. From Hellendoorn we walk through the fields into the forests of the 41 meters high Hellendoornse Berg. After the forests of the Eelerberg we end up in the agricultural area around Lemele between Eelerberg and the 60 meter high Lemelerberg.

Here the route runs with heathland views over the 78 meter high Archemse Berg. The Archemse Berg is the second highest peak in Overijssel. If you are on top and look to the east you might see the Tankenberg which with over 81 meters represents the highest point of the province.

With the Archemerberg we have literally reached the highlight of the day. From here you have a 360 degree view of Overijssel with Deventer and Raalte in the South-West, Zwolle in the North-West and the Twente conurbation in the East. The little church of Lemele just peaks out over the edge of the hill.

Now we descend to Ommen in the Vechtdal where we arrive after having walked along the little river Regge for some time. A real “mountain stage” in our hiking network that is well worth the effort.

Ommen is a tourist hotspot since many years, especially for the Dutch who want to spend their vacations in their own country. You’ll find many campsites here as well as all the facilities you can think of, including a wide choice of restaurants. Although the region is very touristy, once you’re outside the center of Ommen it doesn’t bother you much. There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet and the surroundings on this walk from Hellendoorn to Ommen.
